THE PARIS NIGHTMARE TURNED INTO A DREAMÂ Â
One of our first vacations turned into my happily ever after, but just like any fairy tale, there was some craziness we had to go through first. This is the story of how I almost broke up with Vicente on our trip to Paris, but we wound up engaged instead…

BEST TRIP EVER?
Vicente and I had been dating a little less than a year when we went on our first European vacation to Barcelona and Paris. Me being a little naïve and thinking that we hadn’t been dating long, had no expectations of an engagement, like at all! Yes I know, like girl you went to Paris, of course you were getting engaged, but I truly had no idea! I was just there to have a great time with my boyfriend, but Vicente had other plans.
AM I GETTING ENGAGED?
While there, all of my friends kept replying to my snap chat posts of our photos asking if he had proposed or if he was going to and I found it hilarious! I remember telling them “No, it’s not happening” or even “We have barely even been dating, chill!” so I still was clueless. I told Vicente about these messages and I guess he got nervous that I was going to get suspicious (he still hadn’t realized how aloof I can be). He wanted to make sure I didn’t think it was happening and that is where things started to take a turn.

THING TURN SOUR
Vicente sat me down at a bar we were at and very sternly said “I hope you don’t expect to get engaged on this trip. It isn’t happening, I’m not going to propose on this vacation.” I was caught off guard, because we all have the picture by now that I was just blissfully unaware, so I thought that was kind of rude. This was my first strike with him on this trip, but I put it aside and kept enjoying myself, I mean hello, I was in the beautiful Barcelona!

PARIS
We then got on a flight the next day to head to Paris and I don’t think I have ever been so excited or tired in my life! We were non stop for 6 days in Barcelona exploring and partying, so to say I was exhausted would be an understatement. We got to Paris and our hotel wasn’t ready yet, so we dropped off our belongings and headed to the market to get food.
The top of my “Things to do in Paris list“, yes over seeing the Eiffel Tower, was to have French cheese and wine, so that had to be our first stop! We went to this quaint little cafe and sat outside, overlooking the beautiful streets of Paris, and this is where strike two happened…

STRIKE TWOÂ
So the last two days in Barcelona and then here at the cafe, Vicente was on his phone a lot and seemed to put it down when I looked in his direction. I was highly suspicious, I mean what could he have to hide?! So that day he was messaging someone on his phone again and I finally asked who he was messaging (hey we all do it)? He proceeds to make me feel a little crazy for asking and then says it is a friend of his from back home, a female friend! She lived in Paris so he was messaging her to see if she would meet up with us.
WHAT >( ?!?!
I went from YAY to ?!?! in 0.2 seconds. I had never had any concerns before this trip, nor had we ever really had an argument, so I began to think this relationship might be too good to be true. Why is he messaging her in secrecy? Why didn’t you mention her before coming to Paris? Why do you have to hide your texts? All of these thoughts of could he be sneaking around (very poorly I might add) rushed to my head and I found myself distraught! I got up from the table and went to the restroom. I found myself going through a range of emotions. Suddenly I looked in the mirror, had a pep talk with myself, and I decided to say “Let’s just drop it and enjoy Paris.”
IT’S WHATEVERÂ
I came back to the table and told Vicente that everything was fine. I told him to enjoy our time in Paris and let it go. He was thinking WHEW, that was easy. I was thinking “Girl enjoy Paris and deal with this when you get back home!” I mean come on, what would y’all have thought or done in my situation? I wasn’t going to let anything or anyone ruin our once in a life time trip and went on with the day. Let me remind you, we were exhausted and that always leads to dramatics…
POWER NAPS FIX EVERYTHING
From there we went back to our hotel and took a good nap, then woke up and got ready for a night out. I was so elated to go see the Eiffel Tower lit up at night and forgot all about our little argument. I had been on Pinterest looking up poses for us to do and I had Vicente practice them with me. Obviously I was in a better mood after our nap and so was he. We made our way to a bridge where you can perfectly see the Eiffel Tower and as soon as the Tower lit up, we hit pose one, then pose two and as I went to hit pose three I was caught by surprise!

IS THIS REALLY HAPPENING?
Vicente took me by the hand and got down on one knee, as he pulled a ring out of his jacket pocket. Imagine my shock! I mean not even 8 hours earlier I had my first major setback in our relationship with this man! I kept repeating “Are you serious, are you serious?!”
I literally thought he was playing a joke on me. I mean he had made sure I didn’t think getting engaged was an option. Well when I finally realized he was in fact serious, I got down on my knee too and after the shock wore off I said yes! Best decision ever, no matter how it came about.

WHAT ABOUT THE WOMAN HE WAS TEXTING?
Turns out the friend he was messaging, was actually a photographer and was supposed to show up to take pictures of us as he proposed, but canceled on him that day. That is why he was messaging her and was upset. Good thing I decided to let that incident go and enjoy Paris huh?!Â
We then popped champagne and celebrated that evening and the entire next day in Paris. It was a magical evening I will never forget and led to a life I cherish more than anything. Just like Cinderella, I had to lose a shoe (or my nerves) before this story had a happily ever after.

SOSA YIDO = #SoSayIDo
As you can see from the picture above, I had always wanted to marry him, I just really didn’t expect it to happen this trip. I may or may not have come up with the wedding hashtag #SOSAyido after only dating him for 4 months. I was pretty proud of it! The day after he proposed, we bought this lock and added it to the bridge along with everyone else’s locks. We wanted to be able to go back and see our spot on trips to come!
This is one of my favorite stories to tell, because yes it seems a little crazy, but hey that’s real life! Before you say I do, there are moments you may question “Do I?” but in the end, when it’s right it’s right! I got my dream proposal in front of the Eiffel Tower in PARIS, I mean how could that be wrong?!
