MEXICO CITY
Bienvenidos! Welcome! Today I am going to tell you our top 5 things to do when visiting Mexico City. Whether you are there a couple of hours or a couple of days, these are our can not miss things to do in Mexico City!
Go to Sears!
I know what you are thinking… why is this a must do? We are not trying to shop at a department store on our Mexico City vacation! And you shouldn’t, or you can if you want, but that is not what I am telling you… I want you to go here for the incredible view!
The palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City is one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever seen, and that’s just on the outside. Our tip for you is to go to the Sears Department store across the street and take the elevator up to the 8th level. There is a cafe that has an impeccable view of the museum, where you will get the best pictures.
If it’s really crowded, like it was when we went, then take the escalator up one more level and you can get the same view without buying a drink. Either way, you will be glad you went. Overlook the entire plaza and park area and get photos you can only get from this level. You are going to love it!
EAT!!!
I’m pretty sure all we did in Mexico City is eat, and I’m perfectly fine with that. I can’t wait for you to see our Eat your way though Mexico vlog, you will want to book a trip just based on the food you see. When in Mexico you have to eat the street food.
It’s the best and cheapest way to go. I’m telling you I probably gained 10 pounds in one weekend and I don’t even care, I would do it again! Every street vendor you see, try something new. A few examples of food we tried from street vendors are churros, tortas, tacos, tepache, elote esquite, and a smoked banana with condensed milk and cinnamon.
BUT if you are going to get tacos from anywhere in Mexico City, we have the ultimate and most authentic place for you, it’s called Los Cocuyos. Y’all they are so so good! Even Anthony Bourdain thought so, as he had his place on an episode of Parts Unknown. I highly suggest you get the suadero or the mixed tacos.
They were so delicious. I wish I had gotten more than two, but don’t worry I will go back. Okay this is why I am doing a blog solely on the food in Mexico City, I could go on forever. Be sure to try everything while there and eat on the street!

Zocalo District
Zocalo is the plaza area in Mexico City. We were here during Day of the Dead so the entire area was decorated with bright colors and the plaza was filled with people celebrating and there were plenty of street food vendors as well. I loved being here in this area as it felt so lively.
This is the place people have been gathering for events since Aztec times, so you are bound to run into good times no matter when you visit! They also have the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral, where you are welcome to go inside and see it’s beauty or say a quick prayer.
Zocalo is also where they have the CDMX letters. You can’t travel here and not get a picture with this, you know to prove you actually came to Mexico City. 😉 Be sure to go to the Zocalo district when in Mexico City, you are going to love it!
Chinatown
In every major city we go we love to visit their Chinatown and the one in Mexico City did not disappoint. It was decorated so gorgeously with lanterns and truly looked magical. They sold the pork buns we love, as well as had plenty of dessert bun options too.
We walked the street, took pictures, ate and enjoyed a mixture of cultures here and we highly suggest you take the time to do so as well. It was truly just a beautiful addition to the already vibrant Mexico City!
Zona Rosa
Now this is the place to go in Mexico City!! Here you will see so many shops, restaurants, bars, cafes and more, as well as the infamous Angel statue. When we were here they were setting up for the Day of the Dead parade so there were decorations and colors everywhere you looked.
I couldn’t stop smiling because of all the bright colors, lively people, activities to partake in and so much more. What should have been a ten minute walk back to our hotel for the evening, turned into hours of fun.
You have to check out Zona Rosa, especially if you are into the night scene, as this is where you can find bars to enjoy, as well as take in some immaculate views.
Bonus: Day Trips
There are so many incredible day trips you can take from Mexico City. I will be doing blogs about each trip individually, so be on the look out! If you are into the Aztec ruins and nature, we highly suggest visiting the Pyramids of Teotihuacan. We spent a few hours here and truly loved the experience. If you love markets and floating the river while stuffing your face with amazing Mexican food, I suggest visiting Xochimilco. This was my favorite spot for the entire trip, so be ready for that blog.
