Santa Fe To Taos New Mexico
So after our last blog I am sure you are busy planning your next vacation to TAOS, and if you are we suggest going to Santa Fe as well. Both cities are full of amazing things to do that will keep you occupied your entire stay, but we want to make sure you don’t miss out on the fun stuff in-between.
On our way to Santa Fe, we took the back roads and stopped all along the way to explore the Great Wonders of New Mexico. From the world’s smallest casino, to the Chimayo Pilgrimage, and ending with a hike/swim at Nambe Falls, it was a great way to make the drive fly by and to truly explore what New Mexico has to offer. Plan to wake up early and make a whole day of it.
World’s Smallest Casino
On our travels from Taos to Santa Fe, our first pit stop was at the Picuris Pueblo Casino, better known as the World’s Smallest Casino. When you go inside don’t expect to see roulette or dealers, but they do have a few rows of computers set up for you to gamble.
Just as you do at the casinos in Vegas, you go exchange money for credit and begin playing. You also get FREE drinks (soda/water), and you can purchase adult beverages if you would like.
I suggest stopping by and spending maybe $5-$10 here, just to say you have been! This is en route to the Chimayo Pilgrimage.
Chimayo Pilgrimage
Up next is a MUST DO while en route to Santa Fe. Chimay-O? More like Chimay-WOAH! Inside the Chimayo Sanctuary you will find many details that reconnect you spiritually 🙏From the prayer book, to the healing sand, the photos of loved ones needing prayers, and the shoes/toys of children who left too soon, you are bound to be inspired spiritually and moved to bigger thinking.
👼If you are needing guidance, or a chance to reconnect spiritually, we highly suggest you make the pilgrimage to Chimayo 🚶🏽♀️ It doesn’t matter if you are Catholic, you NEED to go here, and if you are, you must go here. We were expecting it to be a small church, but actually there are a couple of sanctuaries and different statues for you to visit and pay tribute.

Nambe Falls
I know you know this already, but I LOVE Waterfalls! V surprised me with this beauty and I could not have been more elated! So the final pitstop we made on our way to Santa Fe was to Nambe Falls. This is a beautiful place to go visit, have a dip, and enjoy a beautiful gift from mother nature.
So when you go we suggest that you actually walk and go in to the water and swim a little and hike up to see the bigger waterfall. It is only about a 0.5 mile walk from the start of the trail to reach the first waterfall. From there take a small hike up the hill to your right, maybe 100 feet, and you can see the two larger waterfalls, as pictured below.
They also have an option to see them all from the overlook, without actually getting into the water. Nambe Lake is also here, which comes from the Nambe Falls, so if you want to make a night of it, you could come camp out and enjoy the lake/waterfalls and have lots of fun!
